NONGPOH: The 13 pro-ILP pressure groups of the State on Monday reaffirmed their demand for implementation of the Inner Line Permit system in Meghalaya during a public meeting held at Iewmawlong, Nongpoh, Ri Bhoi district on Monday.
The pressure groups took note of the State Government’s failure to put in place an alternative mechanism to curb influx and entry of illegal immigrants into the State and renewed their demand for immediate implementation of the proposed comprehensive mechanism to combat influx.
The meeting was attended by the leaders of the frontal organisations including RBYF president Bipul Thangkhiew, HNYF general secretary Sadon Blah, FKJGP president Joe Marwein and KSU president Daniel Khyriem, among others.
The leaders of the pressure groups sought the support of the local people for the fulfillment of their demand to implement ILP in the State.
Thangkhiew stressed that the RBYF wanted the supports of local people in the State for implementation of ILP in the State, and added that only a strong public voice can lead to the fulfillment of the demand for implementation of ILP in the State.
Claiming that people were being misled by ‘opportunists’ who were against the implementation of ILP, Blah reiterated that the 13 pressure groups had not backed down from their demand for ILP to curb illegal influx but had proposed the comprehensive mechanism as an alternative mechanism to check entry of immigrants into the State.
