NONGPOH: The tirade led by the KSU against Meghalaya Agrovet Pvt. Ltd. which has been operating two poultry farms in Umsning area under Mawhati Constituency of Ri Bhoi district suffered a setback after the Synjuk ki Rangbah Shnong Lummanik Raitong area, Ri Bhoi, withdrew their support to the Union on the issue.

The KSU has been alleging that the private company, which operates two poultry farms in 9-Mer and Mawthei villages in the district, has been polluting the drinking water sources of the villagers by discharging waste into the river directly.

During a meeting on Friday, Synjuk ki Rangbah Shnong Lummanik Raitong area decided to support the company stating that the company had assured the headmen of the villages that it would adopt scientific methods of rearing chicken in both the poultry units.

“The company has provided employment opportunities to the local youths in the area. The Synjuk has supported the company on the condition that the company will be responsible for the problems faced by the local people,” the headmen said.
