Guwahati: CBI on Monday took into custody the private assistant to the Regional Passport Officer here after she was allegedly caught taking bribe, CBI sources said.
The Personal Assistant, identified as Anjali Das Thakuria, was netted while taking money from the CBI sleuths posing as ordinary visitors to the Passport Office, the sources said.
A ten-member team of CBI personnel, including a woman, went to the Passport office and stood in queue before they offered Thakuria bribe money which she accepted, the sources said.
The investigation agency had received complaints from the public alleging that the PA was not issuing or renewing passports till the bribe money was paid to her.
The Regional Passport Office caters to the seven North East States of Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura and Manipur. (PTI)
