Bollywood diva Deepika Padukone has created a flutter in Bollywood after she came out with angry posts on the social networking site Twitter on an article and a photo carried by a leading daily that made adverse comments about her dress at an event.
The article, published in a leading English daily, had commented on her low cut dress that the actress had worn at the launch of the trailer of Chennai Express last year. It had also taken the photos from an awkward angle.
The matter came to limelight when the a daily reframed the story on the social networking site on Sunday along with an accompanying photo.
The story was captioned as ‘OMG: Deepika Padukone’s cleavage show’
Soon after, Deepika shot off three angry tweets directed at the news portal.
“YES!I am a Woman. I have breasts AND a cleavage! You got a problem!!??,” Deepika tweeted.
This was immediately followed by another tweet which said,” Dont talk about Woman’s Empowerment when you don’t know how to respect women!”.
On Twitter, the actor posted a screenshot of the offending photo which was captioned in the ‘news’ story as – OMG: Deepika Padukone’s cleavage show.
Deepika’s tweets elicited an overwhelming response with the Bollywood twitterati coming out in full support of the stand taken by the actress.
In fact, within 60 minutes of Deepika’s tweet, there were almost 1,550 retweets.
Among those who tweeted in support of Deepika were Homi Adajania, the director of her latest film Finding Fanny, director Karan Johar, actors Boman Irani, Arjun Rampal, Ayushman Khurana, Ranveer Singh, Dia Mirza, Nimrat Kaur, Vir Das, Jacqueline Fernandez, Rahul Bose, director Farah Khan and many others.
Deepika garnered support from others including noted Cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle, journalist Rajdeep Sardesai, Barkha Dutt, Sonia Singh and film critic Rajeev Masand.
