MLP ride on Niwan-O-Gatphoh brilliance

SHILLONG: A brilliant performance by Niwan-O-Gatphoh helped Meghalaya Police score a 3-2 victory over Malki at Polo Grounds on Monday. The thrilling contest saw Niwan-O score in the 12th minute to put MLP in front before Malki struck back with two goals.

K. Kharkongor scored the leveller for Malki in the 17th minute before FS Mannar provided the lead in the 28th. Malki looked to be in a strong position but D. Khymdeit pulled one back for the police side in added time of the first half. It was a 67th minute strike by Niwan-O that shut the scores close at 3-2 by full time.

On Tuesday, Langsning will take on Rangdajied United at 3:30 pm at the JN Sports Complex.

The Second Division match witnessed Sawmer play out a 3-1 win against Rynjah. R. Nonglait (24″), D. Lyngdoh (46″), and Superfine (70″) were the scorers for Sawmer while P. Shadap saved Rynjah the blushes with a 21st minute goal.

In a Third Division game, Marbisu and Umphyrnai drew 1-1 after the former took a quick 5th minute lead through D. Malngiang. However, R. Nongsiej pulled one back for Umphyrnai in the 44th minute.

In another match, ARC earned a mammoth 6-0 win over Umpling. The scorers for ARC were C. Malsawma (16″), E. Singh (19″), H. Singh (22″), L. R. Singh (33″), P. Singh (53″), and R. Lalnuntlanga (57″).

HI League from January 22

Mumbai: Hockey India League will begin on January 22 next year and conclude on February 22, said HI CEO Elena Norman here on Monday. “It’s starting Jan 22 and will finish on Sunday, February 22. We are just working on the schedule which will be declared over the next couple of weeks,” said the HI CEO who is on a visit to the city to meet up with FIH CEO Kelly Fairweather on Tuesday. (PTI)
