SHILLONG: President of the Jaintia Youth Federation (JYF) has threatened to file a defamation case against former JHADC CEM, Madonbai Rymbai for allegedly trying to implicate him in a false case during the last Auonomous District Council (ADC) elections.

JYF president, Poipynhun Majaw who was acquitted by the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Jowai on September 3 last said, “The ex-JHADC CEM had filed an FIR on April 16 last alleging that I demanded Rs 5 lakh from him during the ADC elections and even threatened to damage his political career if he refused to pay. He leveled the false charges to take revenge as he was annoyed by the RTI filed by the women members of the Federation which had exposed his involvement in the misuse of the schemes in the Council.”

During a press conference here on Tuesday, Majaw informed that he would file the defamation suit against Rymbai in the next few days.

While quoting the order passed by the CJM, I Rymbui, the JYF president said that “the court cannot issue direction for fresh investigation in the case or revive the case even if there are fresh evidences in the near future because the accusations made against the accused are groundless.”

Majaw recalled that the RTI documents had revealed that Rymbai allegedly misappropriated funds of the JHADC by making his near and dear ones, including his wife, brothers and mother, beneficiaries of several schemes of the Council.

“The RTI documents indicated his involvement in the misappropriation of funds up to the tune of over Rs 1.15 crore in relation to the payment of compensation for acquisition of land for the Jowai bypass,” the JYF president pointed out claiming that as per the available information, Deputy Superintendent of Police, P Syiem who is heading the inquiry in the matter, is likely to file the charge sheet shortly.

“The investigation is in the final stage,” Majaw claimed.
