Yet to study UDP terms: KHADC CEM

SHILLONG: Despite getting a fresh lease of life with UDP giving him a second chance to run the ARPA coalition, KHADC CEM Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit will go ahead with his proposed public meeting scheduled to be held at Student’s Field, Jaiaw on September 19.

“I want to hold the meeting not to save my chair but to enlighten people about the ongoing political rumblings in the Council. We cannot hide the truth,” Basaiawmoit said here on Tuesday.

“Many things had been said against me in the last one month,” he said adding “now, it is time for me to speak out”.

The KHADC CEM said that he was yet to study the pre-condition laid down by UDP for leading the coalition.

This was not the first time that there was a coalition in the Council, he said adding that he was sure that UDP had been a part of many such coalitions in the past.

“But this is the only occasion when one of its partners has set guidelines for the CEM to perform,” KHADC CEM rued.

While asserting that he will accept these pre-conditions if it is done for the larger interest of the indigenous community, he however made it clear that there is no question to accept these pre-conditions if there is any hidden motive.

On charges levelled by UDP, he said “The fact is that I have always projects myself as the leader of ARPA. I do not know from where they (UDP leaders) have come to a conclusion that I tried to project myself and my party while leading the present Executive Committee,” Basaiawmoit added.

Earlier on Monday, UDP had decided to give Basaiawmoit a second chance to improve his conduct as the leader of the ruling coalition in the KHADC -All Regional Parties Alliance (ARPA).
