Nithari case: Surinder Koli shifted to Dasna Jail from Meerut
Ghaziabad: Nithari rapist-cum-serial killer Surinder Koli was Wednesday shifted to Dasna Jail in Ghaziabad from Meerut Jail, where he had been taken for execution of his death sentence. “Koli was taken back to Dasna Jail in Ghaziabad from Meerut Jail. He left for Dasna Jail from Meerut at 12 noon,” Meerut Jail superintendent SHM Rizvi told PTI. Rizvi also said that Koli will remain in Dasna Jail till the Supreme Court delivers its verdict on his execution. “The shifting of Koli to Meerut Jail again will be decided only after the apex court delivers its verdict on his execution,” Rizvi added. On September 12, the Supreme Court had extended till October 29 the stay on the execution of death sentence of Nithari rapist-cum-serial killer Koli. A bench headed by Justice H L Dattu posted the case for hearing on October 28, on Koli’s plea seeking review of apex court’s verdict upholding his conviction and death sentence in one of the murder cases. Youth assaults school headmistress, teacher in Goa
Panaji: A youth on Wednesday allegedly assaulted three staff, including headmistress and a teacher, of a school at a village near here and was arrested, police said. Parikshit Raikar (29) was arrested by Vasco police for trespassing into the school premises at Dabolim village, about 35 kms from here, and assaulting the teachers and a peon at Keshav Sadhana Smriti High School, Deputy Superintendent of Police Lowrence D’Souza told PTI. The youth, who had an argument with headmistress Sushma Korgaonkar sometime back, entered the school at around 12 noon and assaulted her, he said. He later hit another woman teacher and a peon who had rushed to rescue Korgaonkar. The students were unharmed by the man, who was handed over to the police by other staff, D’Souza said. Korgaonkar was referred to Goa Medical College near here where she was treated and discharged. (PTI)
Rs 3.5 lakh cash looted from oil unit
Morena (MP): The owner of an edible oil unit was looted of Rs 3.5 lakh here, police said Wednesday. The incident took place Tuesday night when the miscreant forcibly entered the Krishna Edible and Oil Mill by threatening the security guard at gun-point and reached upto a room where the owners were counting the cash collected from daily sale, Civil Lines police station in-charge Amit Bhadoria said. The accused fired at the glass door, injuring mill supervisor Manoj Dandotia, and entered the room. Sensing trouble, the mill owner’s son handed over Rs 3.5 lakh to the person who later fled from there. Morena Superintendent of Police Irshad Wali reached the spot soon after getting information about the incident and launched a hunt to nab the culprit. (PTI)
Advani new chairman of Lok Sabha’s Ethics Committee
New Delhi: BJP veteran L K Advani is the new chairman of the prestigious Ethics Committee of Lok Sabha. 86-year-old Advani, who missed the bus to be a senior minister in the Narendra Modi government due to the decision to keep out those above 75, was appointed to the post by Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan. Manikrao Gavit of Congress was heading the Committee in the last Lok Sabha. Other members of the Committee are A Arunmozhithevan, Ninong Ering, Sher Singh Ghubaya, Hemant Tukaram Godse, Pralhad Joshi, Bhagatsingh Koshyari, Arjun Ram Meghwal, Bhartruhari Mahtab, Kariya Munda, Jayshreeben Patel, Malla Reddy, Sumedhanand Saraswati and Bhola Singh. Advani is a member of the Committee on Public Undertakings headed by Shanta Kumar (BJP) and Committee on Information Technology headed by young BJP MP Anurag Thakur. Another BJP veteran Murli Manohar Joshi is heading the Committee on Estimates. Party senior Maj Gen B C Khanduri is heading the Committee on Defence. The Ethics Committee examines every complaint relating to unethical conduct of a member referred to it. It is also free to take up suo motu investigation into matters relating to ethics, including matters relating to unethical conduct by a member wherever felt necessary and make such recommendations as it may deem fit.
