Gogoi apprehends Al-Qaeda-ULFA ‘tacit links’

Guwahati: Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi on Saturday stated that the Islamic terror group, Al-Qaeda might try to expand its activities to Assam in collusion with militant groups like United Liberation Front of Assam (Independent) and National Democratic Front of Bodoland (Sangbijit faction).
He said these state-based militant groups might have ‘tacit understanding ‘ with global terror groups like Al-Qaeda and called upon of the people of the state in general to be on alert and provide information, if they happened to stumbled upon designs and activities such fundamentalists and anti-national outfits.
“Apprehending that Al Qaeda is trying to gain access to Assam. We have taken steps to prevent any such development and asked all concerned to remain cautious,” Gogoi told media here.
Global terrorist outfits had earlier too tried to set up links in the north east and Assam in association with insurgent groups here but failed to do so, he said.
Gogoi who also holds home portfolio in Assam government, said security forces had received intelligence inputs that there were possibilities of some incidents during the forthcoming Durga Puja festival.
