Ardent snubs appeal by 4 MDCs
SHILLONG: Cracks within the HSPDP have begun to surface with a majority of party MDCs none too happy with the behaviour of the party vice president and KHADC CEM Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit.
The division in the party came out in the public when four party MDCs distanced themselves from the public meeting called by Basaiawmoit at Student’s Field, Jaiaw, on Friday.
K.P. Pangngiang (Rambrai-Jyrngam), L.G. Nongsiej (Nongstoin), Morningstar Mawsor (Mawshynrut) and Grace Mary Kharpuri (Nongshken) stayed away from the public meeting, while Sohryngkham MDC Pyniaid N Syiem and Mylliem MDC Teilinia Thangkhiew attended the meeting apart from Basaiawmoit.
It is reported that the four disgruntled MDCs had requested the CEM to call off the public meeting since the UDP had already acknowledged the decision of the party not to change its parliamentary party leader in the KHADC.
“The four party MDCs decided not attend the meeting since party vice president Basaiawmoit (CEM) had turned down their request to call off the meeting by saying that he had already decided to go ahead with the meeting,” HSPDP joint secretary Witting Mawsor said here on Sunday. After Basaiawmoit refused to call off the meeting, the four MDCs again requested Basaiawmoit to refrain from making any kind of remarks which might hurt the sentiments of the alliance partners, Mawsor informed.
“However, the party vice president failed to respect this request also and lambasted the UDP while addressing the public meeting which was uncalled for,” Mawsor added.
The HSPDP joint secretary also stated that he had wanted to convene a meeting of the party MDCs and leaders to deliberate on the official communiqué of the UDP. “But there is no point in calling the meeting now since Basaiawmoit has already express his views on the resolutions adopted by the UDP,” he said.
Mawsor also said that he personally appreciated some of the proposals made by the UDP like the formulation of the Common Development Programme.
“Having the CDP will allow the alliance to set its goals for the next five years. The CDP is a crucial component for the success of any coalition,” the HSPDP leader said.
