SHILLONG: An irate Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) on Wednesday alleged that the A·chik community was losing its liberty at the hands of Chief Minister Mukul M. Sangma.

In a statement issued here on Wednesday, GNLA deputy commander-in-chief Toding Ch. Marak claimed that it was a black day for the A·chik and A·king people.

Stating that Sangma utilized the State machineries to suppress the popular movement for Garoland led by different NGOs, political parties, the outfit said that Sangma was suspicious by nature and wanted to take revenge upon the A·chik for the wrong of some Garo people committed on his grandmother or mother in the past.

He also stated that GNLA would fight back against the Mukul Sangma Government and the Police department.

Alleging that Sangma plays dirty politics for his ‘shaky chair’, being seated there by the blessings of militants, the statement questioned, “Anybody can be either a militant or a terrorist in Garo Hills. Why? Anybody can be criminal too, but why?

Terming Mukul Sangma as militant and criminal, the GNLA leader termed the Chief Minister as the “father of terrorism”.

The GNLA leader also questioned the arrests of Lucas Marak and Solly Sangma saying the arrests were political vendetta.

“The duo had vehemently opposed the wrong policies and tyrannical rule and arrogance of Chief Minister Mukul Sangma and any sensible person will do that. The duo had supported P.A. Sangma in the last MP election in which Mukul’s “son-in-law” was defeated,” the statement said, adding that the duo had no connection with the GNLA.
