Scouts, Guides ought to be relevant with the times: Guv

SHILLONG: Governor K.K. Paul on Wednesday said that Bharat Scouts and Guides ought to adopt and change its dynamics according to the changing times in order to make themselves more relevant.

Addressing the inaugural function of the four-day Educational Congress at Pine Mount Ridge here on Wednesday, the Governor said that though the Scouts and Guides movement has been there for over a century, yet it will not be relevant if it does not adopt new strategies and unique methods in motivating the youth and society in tune with the changing times.

The Governor said that there is a lot of need at educational institutions for diversions to properly channelized students in positive thinking, actions and directions.

He urged Scouts and Guides movement to be a motivating force for positive thinking and approaches in order to build a positive and constructive society in respect of conservation and protection of the environment, in conservation of water and energy and in cleanliness and sanitation by beginning from the homes, villages which will lead to cleanliness in the whole State and in the country.

He praised the thoughtful organizers of the Congress and wished it a grand success.

Among others who addressed the Congress included President of Bharat Scouts and Guides, Meghalaya, W.M.S. Pariat, Chief Commissioner of Meghalaya Bharat Scouts and Guides, F.R. Kharkongor and former Principal of Shillong College and State Commissioner (Guide) of MBSG, M.P.R. Lyngdoh.

Philanthropist and recipient of National Citizen’s Award, Honsen Lyngdoh, who is also the backbone of the MBSG, gave a welcome salute to the chief guest.

Unlike other functions, the inaugural function of the Congress went down to the Khasi traditional roots by invocation to God by Seng Khasi priests through the ritual of Thoh Shun to thwart any unwanted obstacles in order to make the Congress go smoothly and to ensure its success.
