Deaths mourned

Communist party of India, Meghalaya State Council mourned the death of people in the recent floods and landslides across the state due to inclement weather. It has also condemned the firing incident in East Jaintia Hills in which two persons were killed.

Women’s conference

The 23rd National Conference of Council of Catholic Women of India will be held in Shillong from October 9 to 12.

Puja greetings

The Hindu Welfare Society, Nongpoh , Ri Bhoi district has wished a happy puja to the people of the state.

Swatch Bharat

The Shillong Cantonment on Friday released a banner showing activities planned by it till October 2 under the ‘Swatch Bharat’ initiative.

Declamation competition

The Department of English, Shillong College organised an Inter College and Inter School Declamation competition entitled ‘Reliving the Bard’s Word’ to commemorate the 450th birth anniversary of English poet William Shakespeare in the college premises on Friday.

Hindi fortnight

Hindi Fortnight was celebrated in Income tax Department,Shillong from September, 15 to 26. Hindi day function was inaugurated by M.K. Biswas, Joint Commissioner of Income tax, Range Shillong. The programme was co-ordinated by Manish Kumar Shah, Senior Hindi Translator, office of the Chief Commissioner of Income tax.

Office bearers

The Dorbar Shnong Demthring elected new office bearers and also felicitated outgoing Rangbah Shnong William F. Khyriem. Albinus Mawkhiew is the new Rangbah Shnong while Geoffrey Nongrum is the general secretary. Election for other executive members, Rangbah Dong and Secretary Dong of four blocks of the Dorbar will be held on a later date.

The Dorbar Shnong Madanrting has elected E. Kharkongor as Rangbah Shnong, H. Kharkongor as general secretary and other members.

Accredition

Lady Keane College, Shillong was re-accredited with A Grade (CGPA-3.00). It was earlier accredited in 2009 with B grade (CGPA-2.74). The principal, staff and students have expressed their gratitude to the governing body, parents, alumni stakeholders and all well-wishers.
