Land acquisition bill against farmers’ interests: Natarajan
Jaipur: Former Congress MP Meenakshi Natrajan on Tuesday accused the Rajasthan government of working against the interests of farmers by passing new land acquisition bill which according to her has several anomalies. Addressing a meeting of Rajiv Gandhi Panchayti Raj Sangathan at PCC office here, Natrajan said that that the government has ignored several aspects like farmers’ rehabilitation in the bill and was against the principles of the Constitution. She said that the new legislation was full or anomalies and would suit only capitalists which indicated that the government was working for the interest of capitalists only. Natrajan, President of the Sangathan, said that the government has passed this bill with bad intentions so Congress is opposing it and has decided to run a campaign to make people and farmers informed about the government’s act against the farmers. Work on Tawaghat-Lipulekh road to be completed soon: Centre
Dehradun: Work on the strategically important Tawaghat-Lipulekh motor road in Uttarakhand will be completed soon by the BRO. An assurance to this effect was given by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh in a letter to Chief Minister Harish Rawat, his media in-charge Surendra Kumar said here Tuesday. The Chief Minister had recently written to the Union Minister asking him to expedite work on the strategically important road close to the India-China border in Uttarakhand. Early completion of work on roads close to the borders is in the country’s interest because it will help the border areas join the national mainstream, Rawat had said in his letter to Singh. In response to the Chief Minister’s letter, the Home Minister said work on the project will be completed soon as directives to this effect have been issued to the BRO which has also been provided with the tools and machines needed to start work on the project. Rawat has thanked Singh for acting promptly on his suggestion. (PTI)
Rape accused under-trial attempts suicide, critical
Kota (Rajasthan): A 20-year-old rape accused attempted suicide in the district session court premises Tuesday. Mukesh Tanwar, who has been charged with rape, attempted suicide with a long piece of cloth in the barracks toilet for prisoners in the district session court, where he was brought for appearance, around 2 pm, Station House Officer (SHO), Kotwali police station, Sunil Kumar said. Tanwar was rescued by other barrack inmates and was rushed to a hospital immediately where his condition is stated to be critical, the officer said. A case under relevant sections would be lodged against Tanwar, who has been lodged in Jhalawar jail since March, he said. (PTI)
C’garh IAS officers to teach students from Naxal-hit areas
Raipur: Chhattisgarh’s IAS officers, including the chief secretary, will take classes at a government-run residential school here meant for students from Maoist areas, to motivate them for better career prospects. “Chief Minister Raman Singh has directed that the IAS officers must teach once in a week at ‘Prayas’ residential school-cum-coaching institute,” an official release said here Tuesday. The decision in this regard was taken during a review meeting of the tribal development department chaired by the chief minister yesterday at Mantralaya, it said. During the meeting, Singh also gave consent to set up a Scheduled Tribe Research and Training Institute in ‘Muktangan’ premises of Naya Raipur. The institute will be developed in a 10 acre area, it said. Prayas was set up in July 2010 in Raipur to provide free coaching to meritorious students selected from Naxal-affected districts of Bastar and north Chhattisgarh. The institute, meant for students of classes XI and XII, hogged limelight in 2012 when a large number of its students got selected in the All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE). (PTI)
