FKJGP demands early completion of houses for fishermen in Ri Bhoi

NONGPOH: The Federation of Khasi Jaintia & Garo People on Wednesday expressed concern over the delay by Fishery Department, Ri Bhoi District, to complete the construction of 15 houses for fishermen which is sanctioned through a Central government sponsored scheme for Welfare for Fishermen.

The scheme which was sanctioned in 2009-10 began only in 2012-13 at Mawlyndep village in the District. Under the scheme each house is sanctioned Rs.50,000 and a tube well costing Rs.35,000 each.

The Federation has demanded early completion of the said scheme for the benefit of the fishermen.

Meanwhile, clearing its stand, Superintendent of Fishery, S. Jyrwa, informed that the delay was due to the recent conversion of the scheme from one village to the other. He assured that the construction will be completed by December, 2014.
