International day for older persons observed in Ampati, Tura

AMPATI: Together with the rest of the world, the International Day for Older Persons was observed at Ampati Multi-Facility Centre on Wednesday, which drew the participation of substantial number of senior citizens from all communities of the district.

The day, which was based on the theme “Leaving No One Behind: Promoting a Society for All”, culminated with the formation of Senior Citizens’ Forum in the district.

The District Social Welfare department paid special honours to the two oldest living persons of Ampati – Sachindra Paul (82) and Roka Ch. Marak (80) – and also gave token gifts to all other the senior persons present on the occasion.

District Social Welfare Officer, Ampati, Linda J. Sangma, Rev. I.C. Marak, Retd. Pastor of Boldamgre Baptist Church, Sub-Divisional Medical & Health Officer, Ampati, Dr. C.R. Marak and retired teacher Deobalish Sangma spoke on the occasion.

In West Garo Hills, the day was observed at Asanang MFC with Retd IPS officer and president of the Nokma Council, Skylance G. Momin, present as the chief guest.
