SHILLONG: Unknown miscreants on Tuesday night desecrated nine graves at Mawlai Presbyterian Church graveyard at Lawmali, here.

The incident has sent shockwaves in the city as similar incidents were reported earlier in city as well as in Garo Hills region.

SP City Vivek Syiem said that police has registered a case and the matter is being investigated.

He said that the police suspect it to be the work of few young boys who want to seek attention.

However, he said that the involvement of alleged Satan worshippers cannot be ruled out.

Earlier on Sept 19 night, unidentified miscreants had dismantled a monument erected at Golf Links to commemorate the visit of Pope John Paul II to the State.
