Mairang girl crowned DMD-Little Champ

SHILLONG: Thirteen-year-old Sylviana L Mawlong was crowned the first Dance Meghalaya Dance-Little Champ at the grand finale of the event held at U Soso Tham Auditorium here on Saturday.

Sylviana hailing from Mairang village in West Khasi Hills District won the hearts of 91,100 people who voted for and supported her in the event. A trophy and cash prize of Rs 2 lakh was presented to the 13-year-old by Meghalaya Transport Corporation (MTC) Chairman, Hopeful Bamon.

Heinidaman T Dkhar (15) of Raliang village in West Jaintia Hills was adjudged the first runner-up while Sophia Lapang (15) from Byrnihat, Ri Bhoi District ended up being the second runner-up. Heinidaman and Sophia won cash prizes of Rs 50,000 and Rs 20,000 respectively.

The fourth and the fifth positions were bagged by six-year-old Darihun Lapang from Umsning village, Ri Bhoi and Effylicia Lyngkhoi (9) from Nongstoin, West Khasi Hills respectively. While Darihun was handed over a cash prize of Rs 15, 000, Effylicia took home Rs 10, 000.

Organized by the Rising Star Hunt Society (RSHS) in collaboration with the All Jaintia Dancer Association (AJDA), the DMD-Little Champ saw participation of over 200 youngsters from all over the State.

After winning the competition, Silviana, also a student of Domkor RC UP School, Mairang said, “I am elated to be crowned the first DMD-Little Champ. However, competing only at the state level is not enough and I have set my goal to prepare myself for the national level.”

Earlier, the grand finale of the event was inaugurated by Information and Public Relation Minister, AL Hek in the presence of MTC Chairman Hopeful Bamon.
