Eid-ul-Zuha celebrated in Nagaland

Kohima: Muslims in Nagaland on Monday celebrated Eid-ul-Zuha with festive fervour. Thousands of Muslims offered their Namaz at the main function held at the Assam Rifles Ground in Kohima and Idgha ground in Dimapur. In Kohima the Namaz was administered by Moulana Mohammad Bilal Ahmed, Pesh Immam of the Kohima Jama Masjid. After offering the mass prayer, they exchanged their greetings to each other and also donated alms to the needy persons. Nagaland Governor P B Acharya greeted the people on the occasion. In a massage, Acharya said Id-ul-Zuha is a festival that reminds the supreme sacrifice of Prophet Ibrahim and it is celebrated by the Muslim Community with traditional enthusiasm and gaiety in India and the world. Woman set ablaze by husband

Aizawl: A 40-year-old woman suffered serious burn injuries when her husband allegedly set her on fire in Kolasib district of Mizoram, police said today. R Rualchhana (47) in an inebriated state doused his wife Lalrinsangi with kerosene before setting her on fire after an altercation on Friday. Lalrinsangi was rushed to Kolasib District Hospital and later referred to the Aizawl Civil Hospital in a serious condition. The man has been arrested and remanded to judicial custody, they said. ‘People’s suggestions to be taken for New Education Policy’

Guwahati: The Centre would invite suggestions from students, teachers and parents for the proposed New Education Policy, the process of which will begin from next year, Union Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Zubin Irani said on Monday. “For the New Education Policy, we will go to all the states. We will invite suggestions from students, teachers and parents for it and will discuss with them how this policy should be,” Irani said at a function here. The government would use all the media — print, electronic and Internet — for engaging the society in the process, she said. Stating that all the past education policies were framed by educationists and academicians, she said for whom such a policy mattered most were never associated. Irani, however, added: “I am not here to blame the past. I am here to frame the course for the future.” The minister said the process for the New Education Policy for the country will begin from next year. India had last formulated the National Education Policy in 1986. (PTI)

Tripura Jana Sangh founder dies

Agartala: Founder member of Jana Sangh and BJP Tripura unit Brajesh Chakraborty passed away in Agartala Govt Medical College (AGMC) hospital following old age ailments on Sunday evening. He was 83.  He is survived by a daughter. His wife predeceased him. Chief Minister Manik Sarkar visited the house of the deceased BJP leader and paid floral tribute. Besides, senior leaders of BJP state units and Tripura Pradesh Congress paid tribute to his mortal remains. “We lost an honest nationalist and it’s an irreparable loss for the politics of Tripura,” Mr Sarkar stated in his condolence message to his family. Before last rites performed in Battala cremation yard, the body of Chakraborty was taken to BJP party office where leaders paid their last respect at night. (UNI)

Indian Mission Summit continues in Kohima

Kohima: Hundreds of believers continued to throng the Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) Convention Center at Kohima as the ongoing India Mission Summit entered the third day on Sunday. Asia Evangelical Alliance and Evangelical Fellowship of India general secretary Rev. Dr. Richard Howell, who was the main speaker at the evening service, challenged believers not to stay aloof but to answer to their call by involving in the society. Rev. Howell, who has addressed various issues like religious liberty, gender issues, youth, children etc on both national and international forums, lamented that there are many young people in India who live in ‘hopelessness’. ‘Our dignity comes from His kingdom, young people, never think of yourselves as inferiors, useless or hopeless, We are the children of the king,’ he asserted. Earlier during the day, plenary sessions on Religious Liberty and 21st Century India Mega Trends were held. (UNI)

Union MoS Sonowal to campaign for BJP in Nagaland

Kohima: Minister of state for Skill Development, Entrepreneurship, Youth Affairs and Sports Sarbananda Sonowal would be addressing a ‘public rally’ for the forthcoming 11-Northern Angami-II Assembly Constituency by-election at Cheiphobozou local ground on Tuesday.  In a release Nagaland state BJP unit general secretary and spokesman K James Vizo said Mr Sonowal will be the BJP star campaigner, and address the by-election rally for BJP candidate Visasolie Lhoungu. He will directly come to Dimapur and likely to arrive at the venue at Cheiphobozou local ground by helicopter. (UNI)
