Seminar on human trafficking in Nagaland
Kohima:, Oct 8 (UNI) The demand for child domestic helpers is promoting human trafficking and in Nagaland there is a huge demand for child domestic helpers, according to Prodigals Home Director K. Ela.
Addressing a seminar on the theme ‘Human Trafficking from the local context’ organized by Miqlat Ministry at Dimapur yesterday, Ela said the figures of children trafficked in Nagaland are never known. She is of the view that craving for attractive jobs among the Nagas puts every individual at risk. She said night clubs are places where professional traffickers harvest the vulnerable people.According to Ela, Dimapur is a hotbed for prostitution and Nagaland is a breeding ground for illegal adoptions. She lamented that human beings are sold and bought like animals. She said ignorance of the local community on the issue is one factor where people indulging in human trafficking take advantage. She attributed poverty as another factor for the problem and opined that lack of political will leads to increase in human trafficking. She suggested that the Government should have the zeal and interest to tackle the matter. She further stressed that the state Education department should improve the quality of education so that poverty stricken parents need not send their children elsewhere for free education and make their children victims of human trafficking.(UNI)
Kohima DC informs candidates on ‘Campaign end’ time
Kohima: Kohima Deputy Commissioner (DC) W. Honje Konyak, who is the District Election Officer, has notified that as per Section 126 of the Representation of People Act, 1951, the campaigning period for the ensuing Bye-election to 11-Northern Angami- II (ST) A/C, would come to an end during the period of 48 hours ending with the hour fixed for the conclusion of polls, at 4 PM on October 13. According to an official report, the district election administration and police administration would ensure that all political functionaries leave the constituency immediately after the campaign period was over. However, the restriction may not be insisted upon the office bearers of the political parties who were in-charge of the state. Such office bearers of the parties should declare their place of stay in the headquarters and their movement during the period would remain confined normally between party offices and place of their stay, the report said. Meanwhile, the campaign of the bye-election was on full swing with area-wise meeting convened by the Naga Peoples Front (NPF) candidate Neiphrezo Keditsu from Chiechama Bawe village with Cock symbol, will have a direct fight with Nagaland BJP candidate Visasolie Lhoungu from Dihoma Village with Lotus symbol for the prestigious Northern Angami -II Assembly Constituency. Modi’s clean India mission motivates Tripura students
Agartala: Motivated in Modi’s clean India mission, a group of school students belongs to different schools of Agartala today launched clean Tripura mission in the city. The students accompanied by their parents and their mentors’ sweeps entire city centre area in the morning well before the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) sweepers resume duty for day. Besides, their friends of different schools, they invited teachers of Tripura University and civil society activists to join them in the mission, said Dr A K De, a teacher of Tripura Institute of Technology and a leading social activists. Adwitiya Chakraborty, member of the students group said, “We have opened up a network in social media in the name of Kasra Saf after getting motivated from Prime Minister’s initiative of clean India and we shall continue to do this across the state every week along with regular study.” To see the students cleaning the market and public place in the morning without any announcement several morning walkers including prominent personalities have joined them. “These girls and boys are leading examples of 21st century. I am really impressed by their commitment and have set an example for all of us. I feel AMC authority should encouraged them to make Agartala clean and green,” opined Sunil Kalai, a mass communication teacher of Tripura University. (UNI)
DAVP organises photo exhibition
Imphal: A five-day photo exhibition on the theme ‘Health & Family Welfare’ began on wednesday at Biramangol College, Sawombung, Imphal East. The campaign for this event is being organised by the Field Exhibition Office, Directorate of Advertising & Visual Publicity (DAVP), Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India, Imphal. About 40 exhibition panels were showcased and will be able to explore themselve and also to be a part of the exhibition. Many visitors through out the area to see the photographs displayed. The exhibition was inaugurated by S Tomba Singh, Chairman, Biramangol College, while Dr N Chonjon Singh, Principal, BMC presided over the function.
