SHILLONG: The All India Garo Union has opposed the appointment of advocate Sujit Dey as the standing counsel of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council.

The AIGU in a letter addressed to Chief Minister Mukul Sangma, while demanding the removal of Dey, said that it is an irony that while KHADC and JHADC have indigenous standing counsels who understand the customary laws and traditions, the Government has appointed Dey as standing counsel for GHADC.
