Jammu: After an overnight lull, Pakistan troops on Monday broke the ceasefire again, opening unprovoked firing on Indian positions on the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district, police said.
A woman was injured in the firing, which was retaliated from the Indian side.
“Pakistan army again violated the ceasefire on the LoC, opening fire with automatic weapons at Indian army positions in Sabjian area of Poonch district Monday afternoon,” a police officer said.
“The Indian army has started retaliating to the unprovoked firing by Pakistan. Till last reports came in, firing exchanges were still going on in the area,” the officer said.
There had been an overnight calm on the international border and the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir, but with Pakistan again violating the ceasefire, the lull was broken on Monday.
Pakistan has been resorting to unprecedented targeting of civilian habitations since October 6. Eight people have been killed and 62 injured so far.
Over 30,000 residents of border villages are living in relief camps away from their homes to avoid casualties. (IANS)
