SHILLONG: Mystery shrouds the death of a 16-year-old domestic help in Jaintia Hills after it was reported that she ‘fell’ from the terrace of the building of her employer on October 4 and died.
The victim had worked only for four days as a maid in the residence of Jancy Passah at Khimusniang Jowai in West Jaintia Hills District.
Haimon Suchiang, mother of the victim, lodged a complaint at Jowai PS that on October 4 evening, her 16-year-old daughter, who was working as a domestic help at the residence of Passah, reportedly died after falling from the terrace of her employer’s building. However, the mother and her relatives suspected foul play into the incident.
West Jaintia Hills Superintendent of Police Herbert G. Lyngdoh on Tuesday assured a CSWO delegation that police will speed up the investigation process.
CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing and other members including Mary Ann Pohshna and Phrom Synnah, went to the Women Police Cell at Jowai PS on Tuesday, along with the victim’s family, to ask for the complainant’s copy to be given to the family.
However, CSWO alleged that Opaia Tyngkan, SI, who is in charge of the Woman Police Cell at Jowai PS, was insensitive to the demand of the victim’s family.
The CSWO members and the victim’s family members, later, met district police chief who assured justice and a thorough investigation into the incident.
The CSWO, meanwhile, has urged the State DGP to appoint more ‘sensitive’ women officers in Jowai as crimes against women and children are on the rise.
The CSWO also urged the DGP to issue circulars to all police stations in the State that a copy of the FIR which has been duly received with a seal and signature, should be provided to all complainants as most complainants are illiterate and are not aware of the formalities and procedures.
The Police should also ask the complainants to collect the complainant’s copy within a day or two, the CSWO said.
