SHILLONG: The Chairperson, State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, has taken exception to the rape of minors by a policeman and urged the police to deal with him like any other criminal.

In a statement issued here on Tuesday, SCPCR Chairperson M. Kharkongor said that the Commission viewed the sexual assault on minors in East Garo Hills District by UB Inspector A.J. Sangma very seriously and condemned the act of the police personnel who is supposed to be the guardian of law.

She urged the police authorities to deal with him in the strictest possible manner and said, “He should be treated like any other criminal without any favours. He should be booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offence (POCSO) Act, 2012.”
