122 truant government officials suspended in JK
Jammu: As many as 122 government officials have been suspended in Kishtwar district by the Jammu and Kashmir government after they were found absent during the duty hours. The Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar, Mohammad Javed Khan, Saturday suspended 122 officials who were found absent from the duty during surprise inspection by district administration teams across the district, an official spokesman said on Sunday. To check absenteeism in the government offices, the Deputy Commissioner had deputed ten teams of senior District Officers to conduct surprise inspection at the government offices across the district. The teams, comprising District Officers and respective SDMs and tehsildars, inspected government offices in Kishtwar town, Dool, Drabshalla, Bunjwah, Sarthal, Palmar, Padder, Chatroo, Warwan, Marwah and Dachhan areas, he said. 122 employees including teachers, VSAs, para medical staff, clerical and field staff were found absent from their duties, spokesman said. He also said that during the inspection, some medical dispensaries and health centres were also found closed. (PTI)
Woman booked for sexually exploiting minor boy
Ludhiana: A 31-year-old woman was booked here Sunday for allegedly sexually exploiting and blackmailing a minor boy, who used to take tuitions from her, police said. The victim is a class eight student and his family lives as a tenant in a house owned by the father of the accused, they said. The woman allegedly forced the 14-year-old boy into having physical relationship with her, they said. The woman threatened to kill the boy if he did not meet her demand. She also made a video and started blackmailing the boy, SHO Dharm Pal said, adding, this continued for several months. Later, the victim told about the entire case to his father, who then approached the police. A case under various sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act 2012 (POCSO) has been registered against the woman today, police said, adding, the accused was absconding. The police have taken possession of the objectionable video and further investigation in the case is on. (PTI)
Married woman gangraped by husband’s friends
Meerut (UP): A 30-year-old married woman was allegedly gangraped by two of her husband’s friends at knifepoint in Kankarkheda area of the district, police said on Sunday. The accused also made a video clip of the incident, police said. Kankarkheda police station in-charge Mahavir Singh Chauhan said the victim filed a complaint with the police Saturday saying that her husband’s friends Nadeem and Aarif, residents of Shobhapur, raped her at knifepoint on October 10. She was married to her husband around two-year-ago in Modi Nagar and recently had come to her father’s place in Kankarkheda, Chauhan said, adding that she was alone in the house when the duo raped her. When the duo again tried to rape her with a threat that they will upload the video clip on the Internet, the victim disclosed the matter to her husband. Police have registered a case in the matter and efforts are on to nab the accused, Chauhan said. (PTI)
Gang robs family of Rs 26 lakh worth of gold jewellery
Madurai: A ten-member gang allegedly robbed an employee of the Electricity Board and his family of 125 sovereigns of gold jewellery valued at around Rs 26 lakh after tying them up at nearby Tirumangalam, police said Sunday. The gang entered into the house after scaling the compound wall and broke open the back door late Saturday night. They threatened the family at knifepoint, took the keys, tied them up and decamped with the booty, police said. The neighbours rushed to the house on hearing the shouts of the family, untied them and informed the police. The employee said, the gang also took away a gas cylinder and a stalibliser of an air-conditioner unit. (PTI)
Centre proposes to appoint K K Sharma as Goa chief secretary
Panaji: Union Home ministry has proposed to appoint advisor to the administrator of Chandigarh K K Sharma as the new chief secretary of Goa. According to a circular issued by Home Ministry, under secretary A K Das has proposed to appoint advisor of administrator of Chandigarh K K Sharma as secretary of the state. The position is vacant since B Vijayan retired last month from the post. Sources close to the chief minister office said that the state is yet to convey their acceptance on the appointment. The circular regarding the appointment was issued late last month, however the delay in acceptance of the order was not disclosed by the officials concerned. Currently, senior IAS officer R K Srivastava is serving as the acting chief secretary. (PTI)
