12 injured in clash between BJP workers and civic employees
Meerut:At least 12 people were injured when local BJP youth workers clashed with the employees of municipal body here over the issue of cleanliness in the city, police said. The incident took place on Tuesday when Meerut youth wing president Vivek Bajpai along with other workers reached the office of the civic agency, police said, adding, a clash erupted between both sides in which at least 12 people were injured. According to Bajpai, they had gone to meet civic agency officials regarding Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Swachh Bharat’ campaign and the clash was initiated by the employees of the municipal body. However, the municipality has filed a complaint against the workers for barging in the office and vandalising public property, police said. The BJP workers have also registered a case against the employees of the civic agency. (PTI)
Naidu announces Rs 10 cr corpus fund for police welfare
Vijayawada:Andhra Pradesh N Chandrababu Naidu has announced a corpus fund of Rs 10 crore for police welfare in the state. The government has the responsibility towards the welfare of the families of martyred policemen. If necessary, the corpus fund would be raised further, Naidu said at the police commemoration day here yesterday. He asked the police personnel to act as trustees of the society and to implement the community policing concept while safeguarding the law and order. He also advised policemen to use the latest technologies for better policing. On the occasion, tributes were paid to 653 policemen from all over the country, including three from AP, who lost their lives on duty in the last one year. Later, the Chief Minister launched the ‘FIR at door step’ initiative of the police. State Deputy Chief Minister N Chinna Rajappa and DGP J V Ramudu were also present on the occasion. (PTI)
Samba police arrest woman, paramour in murder case
Jammu:Police claimed to have solved a blind murder case of a man and arrested his wife along with her paramour in Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir. “During investigations, it was found that the woman, who allegedly had illicit relations with the accused identified as Babu Ram alias Kala, resident of Miran Sahib, hatched a criminal conspiracy to eliminate him,” a senior police here on Tuesday said. He said the deceased Shamsher Singh of village Kanaal, Bishnah, was missing since September 28 last and his body was found yesterday from a closed factory in Bari Brahmana. “On suspicion and investigations, his wife was rounded up and she broke down during the questioning and also revealed the name of her lover, who killed her husband,” said the police officer. “Both have been taken into custody and case under relevant sections has been registered,” he added. Muzaffarnagar riots: Four gangrape accused arrested
Muzaffarnagar: Four persons accused of gangrape during riots in Phugana village last year have been arrested, police said on Tuesday. The accused identified as Mohit, Rahul, Sunny and Sanjeev were arrested yesterday and produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate who has sent them to jail, they said. According to the Special Investigation team (SIT) probing the riots, the four accused were absconding and attachment proceedings had been initiated by the court against them . The SIT had found involvement of 22 persons in five gangrape cases. While 8 accused have been arrested so far, search is on for 14 remaining accused, police said. Over 60 persons were killed and more than 40,000 displaced in communal violence in Muzaffarnagar and adjoining areas in September last year. (PTI)
Passenger bus falls into ditch in Chhattisgarh; five dead
Raipur:Five persons were killed and 26 others injured when a passenger bus plunged into a 50-ft deep ditch in Surajpur district of Chhattisgarh, police said on Tuesday. The incident occurred at Pendari Ghat valley when the bus was proceeding from Ambikapur to Baidhan late last evening, Surajpur Superintendent of Police Prakhar Pandey said. When the bus, belonging to a private travel agency, reached near the hilly region of Chandora Police Station area, located around 400 kms away from the state capital, the driver failed to negotiate a curve on the slope of the Ghat following which the bus fell into the ditch, Pandey said. Soon after receiving informed, a police team was rushed to the spot along with medical aid, he said. Five passengers died on the spot while 26 others were injured, 16 of them seriously, and were referred to a hospital at Ambikapur. Rest of the injured was admitted to Pratappur hospital, the SP added.(PTI)
