EJH food poisoning victims recovering steadily

SHILLONG: The District Medical Health Officer, West Jaintia Hills on Thursday informed that those suffering from food poisoning in East Jaintia Hills are recovering well.

Around 40-50 people fell sick after suspected food poisoning in East Jaintia Hills recently.

Refusing to admit that it was an outbreak of Cholera, District Medical Health Officer, Dr. Biang Lato said that the affected people fell sick after eating at a funeral service in Muktapur and the department is still examining the cause of the incident.

He added that food and water samples have been collected for testing and the department was waiting for the result of the tests. He also informed that many of those affected have been discharged from the hospital.

Meanwhile, Meghalaya Health and Family Welfare Minister AL Hek said that all possible help will be extended to those suffering from food poisoning in East Jaintia Hills.

The Health and Family Welfare Minister said that he will also take up the matter with the Director of Health Services who will accordingly be asked to take appropriate measures on the issue.
