Seminar on standardising Khasi language

SHILLONG: The departments of Computer Science and Khasi, St. Anthony’s College in will organize a national seminar titled “Towards Standardising Khasi for Computational Purposes” from October 28-29. The seminar, which is being organized in collaboration with the Department of Arts and Culture, will be attended by resource persons from IIIT Hyderabad, IIT Bombay, Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi University and Khasi language experts besides participants from universities and colleges.
The seminar is being held to deliberate and arrive on a consensus on the use of Khasi spellings, grammar, lexicon etc., in digital form. The seminar is the first of its kind in the state and is being organised to bring technology and linguistic experts from across the country on the same platform to initiate discussions for language resource development for Khasi.
