SHILLONG: A group of conscientious citizens along with school children gathered at 10 AM on Sunday armed with gloves, face masks and brooms to clean the streets and parking lot around Laitumkhrah Bazaar. The ‘waste warriors’ cleaned up the area in a matter of an hour much to the amazement of the bystanders.

They also made an appeal to the shopkeepers in the area to keep a dust bin each in front of their shops and requested them to encourage the public at large to use them instead of littering the streets and dirtying the city.

One of the students who participated in the cleaning drive said that he would like to see Shillong become the cleanest city of the country with the mass participation of the entire civil society who can augment the efforts of the Municipal authorities.

The cleaning drive was cinducted by the Citizens for Clean Shillong.
