Sisters eve-teased by truck driver and conductor

Muzaffarnagar: Two sisters were harassed by two truck operators when they were traveling with their family on Delhi-Dehradun National Highway near Vehelna village, police said on Sunday. The incident took place yesterday when the victims were on their way to Bagowali village from Delhi with their family on the occasion of ‘bhaiya dooj’, SSP H N Singh said. The accused, a truck driver and a conductor, identified as Dilshad and Naved, intercepted the victims’ car and harassed them. Police said the duo has been arrested and strict action would be taken against them. In another incident, six people were injured in clash between two groups after a woman was harassed by a youth at Pertapur village in Shamli district. Police said the incident occurred yesterday after the youth entered into the house of the woman and harassed her. The two groups entered into a confrontation over the issue which turned into a violent clash in which lathies were used. A case has been registered against several people on the complaint of a relative of the woman, police said. (PTI)

Seven arrested in connection with intra-party clash in WB

Bhangor:With the arrest of four more persons, the total number of persons nabbed in connection with an intra-party clash at Bhangor in South 24 Parganas district has risen to seven, police said on sunday. Two youths were killed in the clash that took place yesterday at Deota village in Bhangor, which is a Trinamool Congress stronghold and the local gram panchayat is also controlled by the party. Among those arrested since Saturday were Baonta gram panchayat pradhan Panchu Gopal Mondal, police said. All seven will be produced at Baruipur court on Sunday. One Bapan Mondal was gunned down by some people, following which the rival group shot dead Rajesh Mondal in retaliation during the clash. Villagers and Opposition CPI(M) claimed that the clash was between two factions of the ruling party over stakes in the panchayat. The Opposition alleged that panchayat chief Panchu Mondal had been removed by the group claiming allegiance to TMC leader Arabul Islam. (PTI)

Cheating cases lodged against SP leader

Meerut:A Samajwadi leader and district panchayat president has been booked for allegedly cheating some farmers in land deal, police said on Sunday. A total of 21 cases have been registered against SP leader Maninderpal Singh and his accountant Diwan Singh by Incholi police, said SHO of Incholi police station Tej Singh. The cases have been registered on the direction issued by a court after the complainants approached it, he said. Of the 21 cases, 14 have been lodged by Amar Singh and seven by Dheer Singh. The IPC Sections invoked against the accused are 420 (cheating), 467 (forgery of valuable security) and 471 (using as genuine a forged document). Maninderpal Singh, however, claimed that the allegations are false and that he has neither bought nor sold any land. “Some people have misguided the court and got the order issued,” he alleged. 6 die in road accidents in UP

Lucknow:Six people were killed and over 22 people injured in separate road accidents in Fatehpur and Moradabad districts in Uttar Pradesh on Sunday. A report from Moradabad said three people, including a woman, were killed when their car collided with a truck near Zero point on National Highway 24. Another report from Fatehpur said three 3 people were killed and two others injured when a SUV collided head-on with a tanker near Kasimpur village under Jahanabad police station on NH-2. Police said the bodies were extricated from the SUV after cutting the car body. The injured were admitted to hospital. In another road accident in Fatehpur, 20 passengers were injured when a private bus overturned near eastern bypass. The injured were admitted to hospital. (UNI)

Woman stabbed to death by paramour Rajahmundry

Andhra Pradesh:A 35-year-old married woman was allegedly stabbed to death on Sunday by a man with whom she had an illicit relationship, following which the accused tried to commit suicide, police said. G Thrimurthulu (35) had been in a relationship with N Satyavathi for the past eight years. Both of them had a quarrel today at Z Medapadu village in Mandapeta mandal of Andhra Pradesh’s East Godavari district after which Thrimurthulu stabbed her with a sharp knife killing her on the spot, Mandapeta Circle Inspector S Ramana told PTI. After killing the woman, Thrimurthulu tried to commit suicide by consuming a pesticide, he said. A police team reached the spot and rushed him to Rajahmundry Government Hospital where his condition was stated to be critical, Ramana said. “We are yet to get full information regarding the case. The reason for stabbing is not yet known,” the police officer said. (PTI)

Case against former gram pradhan for land encroachment

Muzaffarnagar:A case has been registered against a former gram pradhan and one other person for encroachment of graveyard land at Kudana village in Shamli district, police said. The police have registered a case against former gram pradhan Kashmiri Lal and Desh Pal yesterday for encroachment of graveyard land at Kudana village under Kotwali Police Station in Shamli district, Dy SP R N Singh said. The case was registered against the two under relevant sections of the IPC on the complaint of activist Hafizuddin, Singh said, adding, no arrests have been made so far. (PTI)

Five killed in road mishap in Odisha

Sambalpur : Five labourers were killed and as many injured when a tractor trolley carrying them overturned at Gumulei here, police said on Sunday. The incident took place last night when the labourers who were engaged for construction work were travelling in the vehicle with construction material, police said, adding, the vehicle skidded off the road and overturned killing five on the spot. Five others were injured after being trapped under the trolley and construction material, they said. The injured were taken to a nearby hospital where the condition of one of them was stated to be critical. (PTI)
