Poor teacher pays back to the society

NONGSTOIN: As a young boy and hailing from an economically disadvantaged background, he had to struggle to complete his education. However, armed with determination, he went on to complete his education and took a job as a school teacher.

Thirty years down the line, his pioneering works as a primary and secondary school administrator has proved to be a blessing for thousands of students and teachers in West Khasi Hills.

Dles Marbaniang, fondly called Babu Dles, holds the unique distinction of being the Head Teacher and Secretary of the managing committee of an awesome number of 17 schools including 11 LP schools, 5 UP Schools and a Secondary School, all founded by him. He is widely considered to be a living inspiration for thousands of struggling teachers and students in the district.

It is because of his untiring efforts in setting up schools in remote and far-flung corners of the district that young students from rural areas are able to achieve education. His efforts have also provided livelihood to scores of teachers who work in his schools imparting precious education to the otherwise deprived students.

Marbaniang has, with his own efforts, set up the Christ Disciple Secondary School, Upper New Nongstoin; Church of God Govt. LP School, Upper New Nongstoin; Church of God Govt. LP School, Mainop; Church of God Govt. LP School, Umiong; Church of God Govt. LP School, Myniar; Church of God Govt. LP School, Ryngkew B; Church of God Govt. LP School, Lumshyiap; Church of God Govt. LP School, Siejlieh; Church of God Govt. LP School, Mawrang; Church of God Govt. LP School, Domkpep; Church of God Govt. LP School, Pyndenglawar; Church of God Govt. LP School, Mawphansyiar; Church of God Govt. UP School, Mawjai; Church of God Govt. UP School, Nongstoin; Church of God Govt. UP School, Myniar; Church of God Govt. UP School, Mainop and Church of God Govt. UP School, Umiong.

Marbaniang’s selfless services as a school teacher and his efforts to set up 17 institutions in West Khasi Hills, especially in rural areas, was duly recognized when he was felicitated by MLA and MDC of Rambrai Jyrngam, K.P. Pangniang, recently.

Pangniang presented the award to Marbaniang during a programme to mark the Silver Jubilee of five LP Schools set up by him over the course of his 30-year-long service as a teacher.

The function duly celebrated the life and works of the educator whose efforts have left a lasting impression in the lives of thousands of students who are now moving forward in the path of life armed with the education they had received from his schools.
