TURA: The FKJGP Saknigri Unit has alleged diversion of the BRGF Scheme by the Block Development Officer (BDO) of Chokpot C&RD Block in South Garo Hills.

In a statement issued here recently the regional unit’s Games & Sports secretary, Odhison Sangma, claimed that the BRGF Scheme sanctioned in October was being diverted to other villages at the behest of certain VECs and AECs sidelining the people for whom the scheme was meant.

“It is learnt that two-three projects each is being allotted to certain contractors from outside while the people of the area are left high and dry,” Sangma said and claimed that the BDO was giving special preference to his own people including those with backing from influential individuals.

According to Sangma the AECs and VECs of the area have also questioned the decision of the BDO in the allotment of projects.

“The AECs and the VECs have the authority to submit proposals for certain projects as per the requirements of the village and its people. If our proposals and suggestions are not taken into account what is the point of being elected as VEC and AEC leaders,” Sangma quoted the AEC/ VEC leaders as saying.

Claiming that contractors from places as far away as Dalu and Tura were being allotted projects instead of the local people, the FKJGP leader said that it was unbecoming of an MCS Officer to act as such and urged the concerned official to be fair while allotting projects.
