Social Welfare dept looking into allegation of denial  of CMSAS

SHILLONG: Following media reports that one physically-challenged girl, Marita Nongrum of Kynroh Nonglyer village, East Khasi Hills, had been denied benefit of the Chief Minister’s Social Assistance Scheme (CMSAS) only because her father had opposed the diktat of the Sordar of the village to deny PDS benefits to a family of the village, Social Welfare Director, H.M. Shangpliang, on Thursday said officials of the department were inquiring into the matter and he was awaiting the report.

Shangpliang also said that the department will verify the girl’s disability certificate and if it is found valid, she would be enrolled for the CMSAS without the recommendation of the Sordar.

Under the CMSAS scheme, financial assistance of Rs.500 per month is provided to persons with disabilities and widows.
