Centre sanctions scheme for strengthening power transmission
Itanagar:In tune with its commitment for development of north eastern States, the Centre has sanctioned a comprehensive scheme of Rs 4,754.20 crore for strengthening of transmission and distribution system in Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim. The scheme has been prepared by Central Electricity Authority (CEA) in consultation with Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. for laying EHT transmission capacity, addition of high tension transmission capacity and augmentation of existing capacity, an official press note said here on Friday. An amount of Rs. 4754.20 crore has been sanctioned to accomplish this project, the press note said. Of this Rs 3,199.45 crore is earmarked for project to be implemented in Arunachal Pradesh, the press note said. Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju convened a meeting with officials of power ministry and Power Grid yesterday to discuss the process of implementation of the project. In order to ensure local capacity building and timely completion of the project, Rijiju emphasised that there should be an active participation of Arunachal Pradesh government in coordination with the Union power ministry and Power Grid, the consultant for the project.(PTI)
Tripura hopes work on power project will start soon
Agartala:Tripura Power Minister Manik Dey on Friday expressed the hope that and the Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) would start work for implementation of the North Eastern Region Power System Improvement Project within this financial year. The World Bank and the PGCIL has prepared Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the System Improvement Project for the six North Eastern states. “The World Bank agreed to provide Rs.8, 150 crore for the six North Eastern states last year, of which Tripura would get a share of Rs 1,364 crore. It is hoped that the work for implementation of the project would start within this year,” Dey told PTI. PGCIL signed agreements with Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland and Tripura for improving power transmission system, including transmission line and power substations. A technical team of PGCIL, led by its Additional General Manager, P K Srivastav met the Power minister on Wednesday in presence of the officials of the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited and discussed implementation of the project in Tripura.(PTI)
EAC headquarters to be upgraded to SDO headquarters
Itanagar:As a pre-Christmas gift to the denizens of Doimukh, the state Cabinet on Wednesday approved upgradation of the EAC headquarters to a SDO headquarters to bring the fruit of development to the people’s doorsteps. “This is one of the long pending demands of the people of Doimukh assembly constituency in particular and Papum Pare district in general,” government Spokesman Bamang Felix said in a statement here on Friday. The necessity for the upgradation was felt due to the importance of Doimukh as a nerve-center of the community residing in the region since years, he said adding, the Doimukh administrative center being one of the sensitive areas along the Assam-Arunachal boundary, the need was further accepted by the state government. A notification in this regard has been initiated, he said in the statement. Meanwhile, preparations are on full swing for inauguration of the newly upgraded SDO administrative center in the first week of November next by Chief Minister Nabam Tuki. (PTI)
33 cases of sexual assault recorded in Manipur this year
Imphal:Women organisations of Manipur have raised their voices over crimes against women, which are increasing of late. Police said during the last two days, three rape cases were reported in different parts of the state. In two cases, minors were involved. Police said there was a report of an alleged rape of a 21-year-old BSc nursing girl student by a man known to her. The girl was reported missing since October 26, however, she reached home safely on Thursday. Bishenpur Police is investigating the incident. Churachandpur Police has also taken up case of a minor boy, who allegedly raped three girls in the age group of five to six. The accused has been asked by police to remain indoors, as he could not be arrested, because he was a minor. Women Action for Development (WAD) has condemned crimes against women. It said a minor girl was raped at Thoubal district by a school teacher. This year there were about 33 sexual assault cases, including 22 cases, involving minors, it said. Other bodies have also appealed to the government to take prompt action in such cases and strengthen the Juvenile justice system. (UNI)
