NSS camp held in East Jaintia Hills district

JOWAI: The NSS Unit of Jaintia Eastern College, Khliehriat, East Jaintia Hills, conducted a special camp at Lumchymit, an adopted village, from Oct 20-27 under the leadership of NSS programme officer D.S. Diengdoh.

The activities undertaken by the NSS volunteers included cleaning drives, white washing and cleaning of traditional drinking wells besides cleaning and white washing of an LP School and the village community hall. Awareness programmes on women empowerment, environmental protection, health and sanitation, adult education, legal awareness campaign and door-to-door visits in the village were conducted.

The NSS volunteers also organized trekking in and around the village and identified some spots which can be promoted as tourist destinations including Mynsngad Waterfalls, Tiger Cave, Bat Cave and an extra-ordinary hill formation U Loom Le-phaw (Thirty Hills).

On the last day of the camp, a cultural programme was organised by the campers and the villagers , which was attended by Dr. P. Nongtdu, Principal, Jaintia Eastern College, as the chief guest.
