Demand for immediate implementation of Umsning Bypass project

UMSNING: The Confederation of Ri Bhoi People (CORP) on Monday expressed concern over the delay by the State Government to start construction of the Umsning Bypass.
The Umsning Bypass, an integral part of the Umiam-Jorabat four-lane road project, has remained a non starter following stiff opposition from some pressure groups and local residents of Umsning who were opposed to the initial plan of expanding the existing Umsning road into a four-lane road, compelling the State Government to make a new plan of diverting the Expressway by constructing the Umsning Bypass.
CORP working president B. Ryntathiang said that the Confederation was witness to the slow pace of work for the ongoing construction of the much-hyped four-lane project and did not want the Umsning Bypass project to suffer the same fate.
Pointing out that compensation for affected land owners had already been dispatched and other necessary formalities had also been completed, COPR stated that it was a matter of concern that neither the State Government nor the NHAI had taken steps to start the construction of the Umsning Bypass.
