Guwahati: National Investigation Agency (NIA) personnel conducted search operation for the second day on Monday at the house of Sahanur Alam, who is one of the most wanted fugitive in connection with October 2 Burdwan blast accused, at Chatala village in Sorbhog of Barpeta district in western Assam.
Sources said the NIA sleuths focused the search on the room of Sahanur and his wife’s room on Monday, which had been under lock since the couple had left the house about a week after Burdwan blast.
On Sunday, NIA sleuths also searched the houses of Sahanur’s brothers, one of whom, Jakaria, had already been arrested by police for having jihadi links.
The house of another local person, who had allowed Sahanur and his associates to offer Namaz at his courtyard a day before the last Eid festival in October, was also searched.
Known as ‘doctor’ in the area for offering dental problems remedies, Sahanur had left the house, purportedly to visit his in-laws, after the Eid festival. He, is, however not a qualified dentist.
He had created sensation in the village during Eid this year when he had brought a group of people and forced some locals to offer Eid namaz a day earlier.
Director General of Assam Police, Khagen Sarma informed that Assam police was on the lookout for another five persons in addition to Sahanur for alleged link with Jamatul Mujadideen Bangladeh (JMB). Assam police had already arrested 11 persons for alleged JMB links all of whom are now in judicial
custody.
