City woman falls prey to FB lure, duped of Rs 11 lakh

SHILLONG: A woman from Mawlai was cheated of Rs.11 lakh by her ‘Facebook friend’ Eric Jack, who had enticed her with the promise of sending her a parcel containing electronic items, clothes and cash.
As per an FIR lodged with the police on Friday, the victim stated that she had developed a friendship over the past six months with her Facebook friend, one Eric Jack.
In the first week of September 2014, the victim received a call from one person claiming to be an agent of M/s Allied Courier Company, New Delhi, informing that her parcel has reached the courier office and also that a certain sum of money meant for her has been deposited at the RBI Central office, the victim said in the police complaint.
In order to claim the money, she was asked to deposit certain sum of money, amounting to Rs.11 lakh, over a period of time in the accounts of one Nitish Anand and one Sunil Verma.
It was only when the victim was again asked to deposit Rs.2.5 lakh that she realized that she had been cheated.
