SHILLONG: While the Swacch Bharat Abhiyan seems to have found resonance among the country’s masses, a self-styled environmentalist from the city, Nicholas J Kharnami, has other ideas to share with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Kharnami wants the PM to redesign the Clean India Model by giving more significance to waste management.

According to Kharnami, proper waste management needs to be given utmost importance.

“The PM should start a comprehensive Kachra Hatao Jan Andolan with different SHG’s NGOs, Panchayats etc., trained in full scale waste management techniques. The model if implemented in every nook and corner of India can lead to a garbage-free environment besides generating employment,” Kharnami said adding that a nationwide movement on waste management (both solid and liquid) is a must to make the Clean India Mission a success.
