SHILLONG: They will be now known as a group of wasps (Chelongma Kotok), but without sting effect.
The ANVC, which will be disbanded soon after the surrender of arms and ammunition, will form ‘Chelongma Kotok Welfare Association’ to look after the welfare of its cadres.
Why Chelongma Kotok?
The ANVC publicity secretary Arist Sangma said that though the word Chelongma (wasp) a dangerous connotation, the positive element of wasps is that they stay like a family depending on themselves , hence the name was found to be apt.
“We have to be together to look after the cadres and also our survival and moreover, the aim of forming the welfare organization is also to help the needy”, Sangma said.
With no arms and ammunition, the proposed Chelongma Kotok Welfare Association consisting of ANVC cadres also plans to carry out welfare initiatives for the people of Garo Hills.
The constitution of Chelongma Kotok Welfare Association which has already been drafted has provisions of organizing free medial camps for the villagers and also other social activities for the villagers who are in need of help in times of difficulties including natural calamities. The formation of Chelongma Kotok Welfare Association will be officially announced during the official surrender ceremony in Tura shortly.
