Nagaland media body demands JWF

Kohima:The Nagaland Press Association (NPA) has demanded for expedi-ting the process of setting up a Journalist Welfare Fund (JWF) in Nagaland.
In a release, NPA General Secretary Along Long-kumer said the decision was part of a resolution adopted during a NPA General Body meeting held on Tuesday at Press Point at Dimapur.
The NPA said it had on several occasions, most recent was with a meeting with the Chief Minister on October 25, demanded setting up of JWF in Nagaland besides, formu-lating pension scheme and introducing rations quotas for working journalists and non-working journalists employed by media houses and also provision for housing facilities for the journalists.
The NPA has also extended support to the demands placed by the Editors and Publishers of the print media to the State Government for immediate release of all pending bills of Government advertise-ments latest by November.
They also demanded to release all future advertise-ments and payments routed through Director of Infor-mation and Public Relation besides payments of published advertisements be made within 45 days from the date of publication of the earlier press release.
NPA also resolved to support any future course of action which the newspapers might take on account of the government’s failure to respond positively to the above demands.
The  State Government, political par-ties, civil societies and NGOs should contact the media fraternity through proper channel and use their Media Centre for holding interaction with media such as press conferences.
It was also decided that henceforth, all the press conferences should be held at Kohima Press Club for Kohima and the Press Point in Dimapur for Dimapur and any other suitable place for other district headquarters, the release said. (UNI)
