NGT ban openly flouted in State

SHILLONG: After Home Minister Roshan Warjri asked the DGP to ensure strict adherence to the NGT ban, as many as 18 trucks carrying coal illegally were detected from across the State.

According to the data, on Nov 12 at around 6.30 pm, Police detected and seized four coal laden trucks. While the truck (ML-05C-2257) was driven by Pyndap Pakyntein, another (AS-19C-3197) was driven by Khabul Basumatary. The remaining two trucks (AS-01CC-2385) and ML-04A-0857 were driven by Teibor Thabah and Heisor Dkhar, and were seized at Jowai in West Jaintia Hills.

Yet again on Nov 12, police detected and seized two coal laden trucks (ML-10A-5793) driven by Ioh-I Langwar and (AS-01AC-1099) driven by Dominick Suting at Ummulong (WJH).

On the same day, at Mawthawpdah (SWKH), Police detected five coal laden trucks (AS-01EC-0648), (AS-01CC-4159), (ML-10A-4811), (AS-01AC-2248) and (AS-01CC-8659).

In yet another detection, police seized two coal laden truck (AS-11AC- 3123) & (AS-11DD-1812) driven by Jop War and B. Marbaniang respectively at Lad Sutnga (EJH). Police arrested the drivers.

Earlier, police detected three coal laden trucks (ML-04B-3647) driven by Basit Ali, (ML-04A-7413) driven by Rihok Langstang and (ML-04A-7944) driven by Ovi Suja, at Lad Sutnga (EJH).

Prior to this, on Nov 10 at about 11.40 am, Police intercepted one coal-laden truck (ML-04A-9857) driven by Hamlet Pyrtuh at Shillong Bypass near Umkhen (EKH).

On the same day at around 11.50 am, Police intercepted one coal-laden truck (AS-01EC-2557) driven by Shiningstar Rynniaw at Shillong Bypass near Umkhen (EKH).

Police arrested both driver and seized the trucks.

Truck drivers flee

On Nov 8 at around 7.40 pm, while police were conducting mobile patrolling in Nongspung area (WKH), the Deputy Commissioner handed over one Bankupar Nongsiej (18) handyman of a coal laden truck (ML-05K-9814) to the patrolling party. Another coal truck was also detected at Pamphyrnai (WKH). However, the driver fled away.

On Nov 10 at about 10 pm, Police detected one coal laden truck (ML-06-2885). However, the driver fled away, leaving the truck with the handyman viz., Teiborlang Umiong (23).
