SHILLONG: The Water Resources department has completed the consultation exercise with the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) on the revised draft of the proposed Water Policy.
This was informed by a senior official of the Water Resources department on Sunday.
“We have completed the consultation exercise with the JHADC on the draft of the policy. We have received valuable suggestions during the exercise,” the official said adding that the department has also written to the KHADC to also hold the consultation exercise.
“So far there has been no response from the Council,” the official said.
According to the official, the views and suggestion of the district council will be crucial for the finalization of the policy.
However, when contacted, KHADC CEM Adelbert Nongrum said that he was not aware of any such letter sent from the department.
After consultations with the ADCs, the department would also hold consultations with the various stakeholders and traditional institutions on the revised draft.
“We want to make the draft of the policy elaborative by including the views of all the concerned stakeholders,” the official sources said adding that the draft has been re-circulated among all the Government departments.
The draft of the policy has also been put in the public domain inviting views and suggestions.
“We are happy to see that many individuals and groups have come forward with their views and suggestions,” the sources said.
Earlier, the State Government had roped in German International Cooperation (GIZ) to formulate the Water Policy.
