SHILLONG: The CSWO has filed an FIR at Umsning police station alleging that one Jesbil Umbah had raped his step-daughter at Mawlaho under Mawhati constituency in Ri Bhoi District.

In a press release, CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing alleged that the 10-year-old girl was raped on November 15 when she was returning home after fetching water from a distance. The FIR also claimed that the accused, after committing the crime, had threatened her not to disclose the matter to anyone.

The CSWO chief, meanwhile, has submitted a memorandum with the Meghalaya State Commission for Women citing lack of a women police cell in Ri Bhoi District. Kharshiing further mentioned that victims of crime against women and children were facing problems in the absence of infrastructure and vehicles for the district police personnel.
