SHILLONG: Chief Minister Mukul Sangma will meet the pro-ILP pressure groups on Friday to brief them on the steps taken by the State Government to tackle the problem of influx.
Informing this here on Wednesday, an official source said that the Chief Minister will brief the pro-ILP groups about the performance of various committees formed by the State Government to formulate a comprehensive mechanism to tackle the problem.
When contacted, the FKJGP president Joe Marwein said that he was yet to receive an official communiqué from the State Government in connection with the meeting.
“Yes, I have been informed about the meeting. But we are expecting an official communiqué by Thursday,” Marwein said.
“As per the information available with us, all the committees except the one headed by Deputy Chief Minister Rowell Lyngdoh had submitted their reports to the State Government,” the FKJGP president said adding that Rowell committee reportedly sought an extension for a month to complete its task.
He said that the committee headed by the Deputy Chief Minister should take its job seriously since it had been asked to deal with the Benami Transaction (Prohibition) Act, 1988.
Besides the Rowell-led Committee, two other committees, constituted by the State Government, are headed by Additional DGP S.K. Jain and Chief Secretary Barkos Warjri, respectively.
