Assembly session
SHILLONG: The State Government will have an up-hill task compared to the past when it will confront the Opposition during the six-day winter session starting from Friday.
The charge-sheet filed by the police against Cabinet Minister Deborah Marak has apparently become a thorn in the flesh for the Government as it has to go all out to defend her.
Congress party sources said with the Chief Minister yet to get the nod from Congress High Command to drop Deborah from the ministry , the only way for the Government is to cite relevant Assembly rules which prohibit discussion on the charge-sheet.
However, any discussion on issue of charge sheet in the Assembly will depend on the ruling of the Assembly Speaker.
Besides the Deborah episode, the Opposition had indicated that it would raise the need to have an independent probe into politician-militant nexus by either NIA or CBI.
Indications are that the session is set to be stormy one from the day one which is fixed for Government business.
Out of the total six working days, four days are allotted for Government business, while the private members will get only two days.
