SHILLONG: A day after it was reported that the cobalt machine which is used for radiation therapy for cancer patients was out of order for the past three days, the medical Superintendent of Shillong Civil Hospital, Dr. A. Borthakur, on Thursday informed that he had already spoken to the Delhi-based supplier about the problem in the machine.
According to him, the firm has assured to send their team of engineers to repair the machine.
“The problem will be rectified once the engineers from Delhi arrive here,” Dr. Borthakur said, while informing that there was no person in the State with the technical knowhow of repairing the cobalt machine.
He, however, did not specify the date of arrival of the engineers from Delhi. “I am expecting to receive the final confirmation by Friday,” he said.
It may be mentioned that hundreds of cancer patients at Shillong Civil Hospital are without treatment for the last four days due to the fault in the cobalt machines.
