Pele back in Brazil hospital, and ‘stable’
Sao Paulo: Brazilian football legend Pele was back in hospital in Sao Paulo, days after he underwent surgery for kidney stones. “Patient Edson Arantes do Nascimento (Pele) has been admitted for evaluation and remains in stable condition,” said a statement from Albert Einstein Hospital. Local media reported that Pele was being treated for a urinary infection. Pele, 74, underwent surgery November 13 for kidney stones. Close associate and aide Jose Fornos Rodrigues told AFP Pele would stay overnight at Einstein Hospital, but did not comment on any diagnosis or details. Pele, born in a humble home in the city of Tres Coracoes, became the man many call the greatest footballer in history. (AFP)
Stewart says Hamilton deserving champ in uncompetitive 2014
New Delhi: Formula 1 legend Sir Jackie Stewart feels Lewis Hamilton was the deserving champion of the “not so competitive” 2014 season. Hamilton, who beat teammate and fierce rival Nico Rosberg in the championship battle in Abu Dhabi on Sunday, is the fourth British driver to win multiple world titles and the first since Stewart achieved the feat in 1971. “In a way it was not the most exciting season for F1. Mercedes unquestionably had the best team, chassis and engine and as the season progressed, it was very clear that other teams on Mercedes engines were more competitive than they have been for a long time. Having said that, I think Lewis Hamilton is totally being justified as the new world champion,” Stewart told PTI on Tuesday over the phone. Stewart, famously known as ‘The Flying Scotsman’, says Hamilton was the faster driver than Rosberg when it mattered most. “He has won more races than anyone else this season and Nico Rosberg of course was faster in qualifying, but it is always about the man who wins and with 11 wins (out of 19) it is a very resounding victory” said the 75-year-old. CTL final: Delhi face ‘tricky’ Pune today
New Delhi: A consistent Delhi Dreams face a very tricky opponent in Pune Marathas as the two teams clash for the inaugural Champions Tennis League title at R K Khanna Tennis Stadium, here today. Delhi have a solid team and by far the most impressive, but Cyprus star Marcos Baghdatis and world number six Agnieszka Radwanska will pose a good challenge for the hosts. South Africa’s world number 16 Kevin Anderson should start as favourite to win the men’s singles for Delhi but Jelena Jankovic has her task cut out against Radwanska, who has comparatively quicker hands and better movements on the court. Juan Carlos Ferrero has won all his legends singles matches, conceding only a few games, and is again expected to give Delhi a flying start as he faces Pat Cash, who has not been able to win a single match. The 34-year-old Spaniard is still supremely fit and good enough to beat many current players and the 49-year-old Australian would be easy meat for him.
