Top ANCA cadre held in TN

SHILLONG: In a major breakthrough the Meghalaya police on Tuesday arrested the self-styled commander of Achik National Cooperative Army (ANCA) William A Sangma along with his aide from a remote village in Tamil Nadu.

Sangma and his accomplice Alas R Sangma of Chokpot were arrested from Chinakkarai under Palladm police station in Tirupur district of Tamil Nadu, a state police statement said. William A Sangma is the most wanted militant who managed to escape from Mendipathar Police station lock up in the month of August last. His accomplice Alas R Sangma is a wanted criminal in a case where he shot at his six-year-old son.

On being given a lead by a source, the Special Team took the help of Tirupur district police of Tamil Nadu and tracked William and his accomplice in a readymade garment manufacturing factory. The Tamil Nadu police have extended full support and cooperation in arrest of William and his accomplice and the arrested persons are being brought to Garo Hills tomorrow for further interrogation.

It may be mentioned that Tura police arrested one Sanjeev Roy, a close associate of William A Sangma from Lower Babupara,Tura on Monday and seized Rs 31,745 , five mobile phones, and some incriminating documents from his possession.
