DGPs meet to focus on militancy-jihadi axis

Guwahati : The two-day 49 th annual conference of DGPs of all state/UT police forces and central police forces to be held here on November 29 and 30 will have a special session on the new brand of militancy connected to jihadis besid-es a session on NE insur-gency related to ethnicity.

“The conference which will be addressed by the Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on the inaugural day and by the PM Narendra Modi on the concluding day, will also focus on sessions on North-East militancy related to ethnicity, Left wing militancy, police modern-isation in respect of new challenges, mainte-nance of police-public rela-tions, “ Assam DGP Khagen Sarma informed on Thursday.

There will be separate discussion with the RAW that will also cover issues related to frontier guarding

states. The police summit is being held outside the national capital for the time in Independent India “Security measures in and around Guwahati city have been tightened while alert has been sounded in all districts of the state given that several militant groups including the ULFA and NDF (Sangbijit faction) are trying to strike terror arou-nd these days,” Sarma said.

Total 35 companies of forces have been deployed in and around Guwahati city while entire city has been

covered as VIP movements areas.The DGPs/IGPs of all the states, UTs, heads of Central Paramilitary Forces (BSF,CRPF, ITBP, SSB, NSG, CISF, SPG,NDRF, BPR-&D,IB, CBI, DCPW, NCRB, NHRC etc) and commis-sioners of Police of all important metros will be attending the conference.

The DGP said that jihadi activities in Assam had graduated beyond the phase of setting up modules and the situation was such that jihadis from outside might try to strike terror here with the help of local modules given that it was a global phenomenon
